Fall gives way to Winter.

As the weather shifts and the leaves begin to turn (as much as they do here in south Alabama) we make the transition from our fall sports season to our winter sports. We move from the cool breezes of the football field to the nice warm gym on a cold winter night.

The varsity football team wrapped up a tremendous season Friday night vs. Straughn. The Admirals showed a lot of heart but fell short in a 14-0 loss. The 2009 season was a tremendous success with Bayside winning its first playoff game and making the Alabama state football playoffs for only the second time in school history. Coach Lazenby and the coaching staff did a great job with the boys this season and they responded by giving the Admirals their best season in the history of the football program. The football team finished the year 7-5.

The cross country team completed another successful season at the state meet in Moulton, Alabama last weekend. The boys finished 5th and the girls 4th in 3A in the state. Senior Stewart Shoemaker won the individual state title with a time of 16:46. Many of the boys and girls set personal bests at the state and sectional meet in Auburn. Congrats to the cross country team for another fantastic year.

The swim team wraps up the fall sports season when they participate in the state meet at Auburn University on December 4th and 5th. Good Luck to Coach McTaggart and all the members of the swim team.

With the fall sports soon to be finished basketball takes center stage. The season tipped off earlier this week with the middle school and varsity teams playing their first games of the season despite the appearance of Hurricane Ida.

The varsity boys opened up with an impressive victory over Alabama School of Math and Science before falling to 5A Faith Academy on Saturday. The boys team returned to action Monday night with hard fought win over Alma Bryant. The boys look to be much improved and should be able to make some noise in the area this season. The team returns to action this Saturday, November 21st in the Flomaton Tournament and takes on Gulf Shores after we return from Thanksgiving on December 1st. Good luck to Coach Watson and all the boys.

The girls varsity basketball team opened up with a big win over Alabama School of Math and Science before falling to Faith Academy on Saturday. This week the girls have traveled north to Fruitdale to take part in their tournament. The girls lost a heart breaker in the opening round to Millry but rebounded to defeat Coffeeville last night. The girls return to action tonight vs. either Citronelle or Fruitdale tonight at 6:00. Next week will be a tough week for the Lady Admirals as they travel across the bay to Mobile to participate in the UMS tournament. Good Luck to Coach Davidson and all the girls!

Middle school basketball returns to action on Monday with a trip to Perdido to take on the Raiders. The 8th grade girls play at 4:30 followed by the 7th grade boys at 5:30 and the 8th grade boys at 6:30. Good Luck to the middle schoolers!

Bayside by the numbers!

1,000, 100, 50, 8, 7, 6, 2, 1

Don't drive over to Florida and buy lottery tickets. These are not the winning lotto numbers from next Saturday night's drawing. They are some numerical milestones reached by our sports teams and coaches in the last couple of weeks here around Bayside.

1,000 - Victories for Ann Schilling after the Admirals regional win over Geneva (25-9, 25-9, 25-10). Coach Schilling then took her first step toward 2,ooo by guiding the Lady Admirals to wins over Daleville (25-3, 25-9, 25-9) and Cottage Hill Christian (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) to capture the Regional title.

100 - Victories for head football Coach Phil Lazenby after the Admirals victory over Choctaw County (36-6). Coach Lazenby has coached at Gunterville, Southside Gadsen, Benjamin Russell and Bayside in his head coaching career. Here's to Coach Lazenby as he starts his quest for the next 100 victories.

50 - Wins for our volleyball team in rout to capturing the 3A Alabama state volleyball title. The Lady Admirals finished with a record of 50-17. Bayside defeated Montgomery Academy (24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21) in the state finals.

8 - Straight Alabama state volleyball titles for Bayside (a state record). The Admirals have won 11 of the last 12 state titles in their classification.

6 - Number of wins for the varsity football team (ties school record).

2 - The second time in school history the football team has gone to the playoffs and the second time the football team has won 6 games.

1 - County Championships won by the middle school after they defeated Elberta 8-6 in the 1A Baldwin County championship game last week. Congrats to Coach Johnston and the entire middle school football team on capturing the school's first ever football county championship!

Fall Sports Updates!

Here we sit two months into the school year the weather will soon (hopefully) be getting cooler but Bayside athletics are really starting to heat up!

Boys and Girls Basketball opene up practices this week. I heard that the boys team opened practice with their very own version of Midnight Madness. The basketball team returns some key players and I'm sure Coach Watson will have them ready to roll when the season opens on the road at Alabama School of Math and Science at 6:30.

The swim team will participate in the Spooky Splash at Bishop State on Halloween Day. The meet starts at 9:00. Get your floaties and your sunscreen and make the drive over to the Bishop State campus and support our swimmers as they wrap up another strong season in the pool!

Congratulations to the middle school volleyball team on winning the county volleyball championship with a victory over Elberta. Coach Reibe and Coach Thompson did a terrific job with the girls this season.

The middle school football team wrapped up a spot in the county championship game with a 34-8 victory over Summerdale. The win improves their overall record to 5-1. Bayside will play their last regular season game vs. St. Luke's at home this Thursday at 6:00. The county championship football game will be played right here at Bayside on Thursday, October 22 at 6:00. Come out and support our future varsity stars as they attempt to capture the school's first ever middle school football championship.

The cross country team will compete in the McGill Toolen Relay on Halloween Day at Langan Park. Sectionals are right around the corner (Nov. 5th in Auburn) and the state cross country meet is less than a month away (Nov. 14th in Moulton, AL). The McGill Relay will be an excellent tune up for the sectional and state meet. If you can, get out to Langan Park and support our cross country teams.

The varsity football team lost a heartbreaker to Cottage Hill last week (30-29). The Admirals fought gallantly to the very end. The team will travel north to Luverne this week to battle with a strong Luverne team. I have heard there is a fan bus going to the game this week let's make it a Bayside crowd. A win this weekwould boost the Admirals chances of hosting the first playoff game in school history. It sure would be nice to be playing right here in Daphne the first week in November rather than having to travel. Good Luck to the Admirals as they continue forward in this wonderfully entertaining season. The team will travel again next week to Central-Hayneville and then will host 5A Gulf Shores on October 30 for Homecoming. Remember you can follow all Admiral football games on the the internet at: http://www.ussportstoday.com/bayside-academy/

The volleyball team dominated the area tournament yesterday defeating Choctaw County and Cottage Hill Christian on their way to advancing in volleyball playoffs. Bayside will host the regional volleyball tournament on Saturday right here atgood old Bayside. The volleyball team is attempting to win an unprecedented 8th straight Alabama state volleyball chamionship. The Lady Admirals will host the substate tournament on October 22 also at Bayside. The state tournament begins in Birmingham on October 28th. We would like to see as many familar faces as we can in Birmingham as these girls try to do something which has never been done by any team in ANY classification. We hope everyone will turn out this weekend and support the volleyball team.

GO ADMIRALS!

What a time to be a Bayside sports fan!

Just this week alone the volleyball team will face McGill and travel to Decatur to play in the Danville Tournament. The football team will travel across the bay to face Mobile Christian. Cross country will participate in the Daphne Invitational and the swim team will face off with Murphy and Alma Bryant @ Bishop State in the second meet of the season.

If you get a chance to catch your breath middle school football, volleyball and cross country are also all competing this week.

Volleyball starts off the week facing 6A McGill at home on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:00. Show up and support the volleyball team as they take on the mighty Yellow Jackets. I have heard the students are organizing a "blue out" so wear blue and make some noise as the Admirals shoot for the upset. The Admirals are the #1 ranked team in 3A in the state and McGill is ranked #5 in the state in 6A. This should be a great match up and our girls need all your support in their bid to swat the Yellow Jackets!

What a wild two weeks for the football team. After coming thisclose to pulling off the biggest upset in school history it might have been easy for Bayside to be a little flat vs. Straughn last Friday night. The Admirals came out and methodically took apart Straughn 27-0! Coach Lazenby has the boys ready and the coaches are doing a terrific job preparing the team. I hope everyone got a chance to attend the games the last two weeks. The atmosphere is amazing. The crowds have been tremendous. Loud and supportive! If you were in attendance you've witnessed two of the best games this football program has EVER played. Bayside had a 1st and goal at the 9 yard line with less than a minute to play vs. #1 ranked T.R. Miller. T.R. Miller is one of the most tradition rich football programs in the state and our boys gave them all they could handle before falling just a little short 28-24. It was amazing to see the effort the Admirals showed in the loss. Bayside dressed 30 players for the game and T.R. Miller dressed 80!!!!!!!!

This week the Admirals will play Mobile Christian. If you can drive over to west Mobile on Friday night and support the Admirals.

Middle school volleyball will travel to Fairhope on Thursday to take on the Pirates. Middle school football will play the appetizer to the Friday night main course as they travel to Mobile Christian on Thursday at 6:00. The middle school match up is a battle of undefeated teams as both the Admirals (2-0) and the Leopards (3-0) have yet to lose a game this season!

Hope everyone has a great week get out and support ALL the Admiral athletes!

Busy Sports Week!

Welcome to another busy week around the Bayside Academy campus. Starting this week all the fall sports will be in full swing and the Admirals are looking for another successful week! With all these sporting events and construction on campus sometimes it's hard to even find a parking spot around here?

We'll start out in the middle school volleyball where our 7th and 8th grade girls won a home match with Elberta. The 7th grade girls won 2-0 and the 8th grade girls won 2-1. This week the 7th and 8th grade girls travel to Summerdale on Thursday, September 10th for a tri-match starting at 5:00. The girls are playing well and we hope they are working toward bringing another middle school volleyball county championship back to the trophy case. Coach Reibe and Coach Thompson will keep the girls focused on their goal!

In middle school football the little Admirals started the year off right by returning the opening kickoff of the season for a touchdown and never looked back in a 34-8 win over visiting Summerdale! After heartbreaking losses in the county championship game the last two seasons the boys seem hungry to play in the county championship game for the third year in a row. Hopefully this is the year they bring home a championship! The Admirals are 1-0 and travel to Mobile this week to play St. Luke's Thursday, September 10th at 4:00 in what should be a very tough contest.

The varsity volleyball team finished second in the Battle by the Bay tournament this past weekend falling in the finals to traditional 6A powerhouse McGill-Toolen. They may get another chance at the Yellow Jackets as they compete in the McGill Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Next Week the Lady Admirals will host Fairhope on Monday and Gulf Shores and Baker in a tri-match on Wednesday. This is a young team Coach Schilling has but they are getting better every day. Come out and watch the girls as they go for their 8th straight state volleyball title!

The boys and girls cross country teams are confident after a strong second place finish against perennial cross country powerhouse St. Paul's. The cross country teams have been burning up the roads every day after school all over Daphne getting ready for the Challenge of Champions at Langan Park on Saturday, September 12 at 8:00 a.m. If you get a chance drive out to Langan Park on what should be a beautiful Saturday morning and watch our runners give it their all.

The swim team "dove" into their first practice yesterday. Coach McTaggart will lead the boys and girls swim team as they open their season on September 17th in the West Mobile Invitational. The swim team is hoping to make a big "splash" this season!

The varsity football team improved their record to 1-1 (1-0 in Region play) with a 52-6 region victory over Calhoun High School last Friday night. The 52 points scored are a school record and many of the freshman and sophomores got extensive playing time early in the game. This week the #1 ranked T.R. Miller Tigers will visit Bayside Friday, September 11th at 7:00. The Tigers have built quite a football dynasty and have won 6 state championships over the years. T.R. Miller is considered one of the best football programs in the state regardless of classification. Hopefully our boys will be ready for the challenge! The Tigers will bring a huge crowd down to Bayside Friday night and we need everyone to come out early and BE LOUD to support our Admirals.

Go Admirals!

Welcome to the Bayside Academy Sports blog. We will update from time to time to keep you up to date on the latest and greatest happenings from around the Bayside Academy sports scene.

Fall is certainly a busy time of year. Football, cross country, volleyball, swimming all competing at the same time make for a busy start of what should be an outstanding athletic year for Bayside Academy.

Volleyball

There are three things in life that are guaranteed: death, taxes and Bayside Academy playing for the Alabama State volleyball championship. The Lady Admirals led by Coach Ann Schilling will try to win an unprecedented 8th CONSECUTIVE Alabama state volleyball championship this season. The volleyball team defeated Cottage Hill Christian and Choctaw County last night and had a terrific showing at the Boddie Tournament last weekend in Birmingham. The Lady Admirals take a short trip down Highway 98 this weekend to play in the Fairhope Tournament (Saturday, August 29). This is a young but talented team and there is no doubt Coach Schilling will bring out the very best in our girls as they try to bring home another state title!

Football

The Admiral football team makes its 2009 debut tonight at Millry High School. Bayside made the playoffs for the first time in 2008 and completed its first ever winning season. The team has worked hard in the weight room all summer to prepare for the upcoming season and another playoff appearance. Coach Lazenby will have the boys ready to go tonight as they travel to Millry to face a very tough and experienced bunch of Millry Wildcats. Game time is at 7:00 in Millry and if you can’t make it to Millry you can listen to the game live on the web at: http://www.ussportstoday.com/bayside-academy/ click the “Listen Live” link at the upper right hand corner of the page. Hope to see everyone in Millry tonight.

Cross Country

If you have been anywhere within a five mile radius of the campus I’m sure you’ve seen the cross country team braving the scorching heat getting ready for their upcoming season. The Admirals look to compete for both individual and team titles this season and by the looks of things they are definitely putting in the work to make it happen. They will participate in the Challenge of Champions Meet Saturday, September 12 at 8:00AM at Langan Park.

Swimming

The swim team also returns to action this fall and will begin practice on Tuesday, September 8th. Coach McTaggart has quite a few new faces on the team as they look to lap the competition on their way to a great season.

I’ll be updating everyone on the progress of all our sports teams as the year goes on and hope everyone will stop by and read about the progress and achievements of ALL our student athletes! Go out and support all our Bayside Academy sports, athletes and coaches for all they do!
